BEFORE CALLING SOMEONE A “GOOD PARTNER,” WATCH THESE 7 THINGS Flowers are beautiful. Sweet messages are nice. Chemistry is exciting. But healthy relationships are often revealed in less glamorous moments. Pay attention to these seven areas. 1. HOW DO THEY HANDLE “NO”? Can you disagree? Can you decline something? Can you have different preferences without being punished emotionally? Someone's response to boundaries tells you a lot. 2. HOW DO THEY ARGUE? Disagreements happen. The real question is: Do disagreements become insults? Threats? Humiliation? Silent punishment? Or can both people communicate and eventually resolve the issue? 3. CAN THEY APOLOGIZE? A meaningful apology isn't: “Sorry you got offended.” A healthier apology sounds more like: “I understand what I did. I was wrong. I'll handle it differently.” 4. DO THEIR ACTIONS MATCH THEIR WORDS? Promises create expectations. Patterns reveal character. Don't evaluate people only by what they say when emotions are high. Watch what they repeatedly do. 5. HOW DO THEY TREAT PEOPLE THEY DON'T NEED? Waiters. Drivers. Junior workers. Family members. Strangers. Someone's kindness shouldn't appear only when there is something to gain. 6. CAN YOU GROW AROUND THEM? Healthy love shouldn't require you to become smaller so another person feels secure. A supportive partner should not be threatened by your progress. 7. DO YOU FEEL SAFE BEING HONEST? Can you say: “I'm struggling.” “I disagree.” “I need space.” “That hurt me.” “I made a mistake.” Emotional safety matters. A RELATIONSHIP CHECK-IN Every few weeks, couples can ask: What have we been doing well? What has been difficult lately? Is there anything you haven't felt comfortable telling me? How can I support you better? The objective isn't to create a perfect relationship. It's to create one where problems can be discussed before they become resentment. ❤️ COMMUNITY QUESTION: Which matters more in the long run: love, communication, respect, trust, or compatibility? And why?
