The Difference Between a Good Idea and a Useful Idea Not every good idea is a useful idea, an idea can sound exciting in a meeting. It can look impressive on paper, everyone can agree that it is creative. But the real question is: What problem does it solve? A useful idea makes something better. It saves time, reduces cost, Improves customer experience, solves a real operational problem, creates an opportunity. Or removes something that shouldn't have been there in the first place, sometimes the best idea isn't the most complicated one. It might be a simple change to a process that saves the team two hours every day. It might be a small improvement that makes customers trust the business more. It might even be deciding not to do something that is consuming resources without producing results. I have learned that creativity is important, but usefulness gives creativity direction. Before asking “Is this a good idea?” Maybe we should ask: “Who does this help, what does it improve, and how will we know?” That is where an idea starts becoming a business solution.
