YOU DON'T NEED A PERFECT FITNESS ROUTINE. START WITH MOVEMENT. Some people think becoming active requires: A gym membership. Expensive shoes. Two free hours every day. A personal trainer. A perfect meal plan. It doesn't. The World Health Organization recommends adults aim for roughly 150–300 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, or the vigorous-activity equivalent, alongside muscle-strengthening activity on two or more days. But if you're currently doing almost nothing, the most useful first target may simply be: Move more than you did last week. START WITH WALKING Try: 10 minutes in the morning. 10 minutes during lunch. 10 minutes in the evening. That's 30 minutes without needing a huge block of free time. ATTACH MOVEMENT TO SOMETHING YOU ALREADY DO After dinner → walk. After waking → stretch. During phone calls → stand or walk. While watching TV → light movement. Habit becomes easier when attached to something already familiar. MAKE IT ENJOYABLE Exercise doesn't have to mean suffering. Dance. Walk. Cycle. Play football. Swim. Clean energetically. Take stairs. Do simple body-weight movements. WHO notes that physical activity can include transportation, household activities, recreation, sports and planned exercise. PAY ATTENTION TO HOW MOVEMENT MAKES YOU FEEL The NHS notes that physical activity can support mood, confidence, focus, stress management and sleep. Instead of asking only: “Did I lose weight?” Also ask: Do I have more energy? Do I sleep better? Is my mood improving? Am I stronger? Can I walk farther? SIMPLE BEGINNER WEEK Monday: 20-minute walk Tuesday: Light stretching Wednesday: 20-minute walk Thursday: Rest/light movement Friday: 20-minute walk Saturday: Something enjoyable — dancing, football, cycling, etc. Sunday: Rest and plan the next week Start where your body currently is and build gradually. Your goal isn't to punish your body. It's to take care of it. 🚶 COMMUNITY QUESTION: What's one type of movement or exercise you actually enjoy?
